Woman smelling a scented candle

Women have a stronger sense of smell than men?

Did you know that women have a stronger sense of smell than men?

Yes, it’s true! Scientists have found that women have a more developed sense of smell than men.

The female of the species is capable of identifying a greater number of different odours than their male counterparts.

This is thanks to women’s orbital prefrontal region of the brain, which is far more developed than the opposite sex.

Women have more cells in the olfactory system - the system we use to smell. Here’s the numbers: 16.2 million cells total in the average woman, compared with 9.2 million total cells in the average man.

Maybe that’s why those stinky socks sitting in the corner of the bedroom for a week may bother women more than men!
